Press Release:

Geodata is strengthening its investment in GIS solutions for marine operations and the oil and gas sector with the purchase of Geocap AS. Norwegian owned Geocap specializes in advanced mapping and modeling solutions for use in areas including oil exploration and production.

Two years after Geodata acquired GIS-Partner, Norway's leading GIS integrator is making a new acquisition within the oil and gas sector. Through the purchase of Geocap, Geodata now has access to software and specialist expertise in advanced 3D mapping and modeling solutions. Geocap’s products are used in oil exploration and production, hydrography for offshore wind farms, boundary calculations and continental shelf mapping worldwide. The solutions are utilized in more than 50 countries. Geocap’s Seafloor system is used globally for the creation of detailed seafloor maps. Other Geocap products are employed by leading Norwegian oil and service companies such as Statoil, Aker Geo, PGS, TGS and Det norske oljeselskap ASA.

"We are seeing increasing growth in the oil and gas sector, and as a result wish to further strengthen our position in this market. The acquisition of Geocap builds on the success of our previous integration of GIS-Partner and creates Norway's leading GIS environment within the sector. With the combination of Geocap's specialist expertise and our substantial experience as an integrator of the market's largest GIS solutions, we are creating a solid platform for future growth", said Geir Hansen, CEO of Geodata.

Geodata delivers solutions using Esri, the world's leading GIS software. Esri is used by the biggest oil companies internationally to streamline oil exploration and production. 3D modeling of terrain and surfaces produces analysis that allows more efficient exploration activity.

"Our Norwegian and international clients have requested closer integration of GIS with our advanced 3D systems. An integrated product from Geocap and Geodata will allow our clients to dramatically streamline their working practices. Together we will develop new solutions to meet future needs for integration, efficiency and 3D visualization. We look forward to being part of Geodata ", said Morten Tønnesen, Managing Director of Geocap.
